2getheraudio / Qubiq, LLC
Founder and CEO March, 2016 - present
Qubiq Audio is an audio technology development firm designing and building music creation software for companies in the electronic instrument industry. Qubiq's primary product, called struQture, is a Mac and Windows software development platform which provides a turn-key solution for quickly building virtual instrument and effects plugins, editors for hardware synths, and other music creation products. 2getheraudio is Qubiq’s customer facing brand. Its products are extremely accessible by offering customers to pay what they can afford while 10% of that purchase price goes to a social cause of their choice.
Responsibilities: electronic instrument product design, development and personnel management, business administration, marketing and sales.

inMusic Brands
V.P. of Software Development January, 2012 – March, 2016
InMusic is the parent company to the well-known family of musical instrument companies including Akai Professional, M-Audio, Alesis, Denon and others. My company, SONiVOX, was acquired by inMusic Brands in January, 2012. The acquisition brought important synthesis technologies, sound design content, and in-house software development to inMusic product lines, primarily those from Akai Professional, M-Audio, and Alesis.
Responsibilities: Product ideation (software and hardware), development scheduling and management, functional specification writing, hiring and personnel management of software engineers, quality assurance and sound design teams, internship instruction, contract negotiation, acquisition of 3rd party technology and services, product and release coordination with marketing and sales teams, press and tradeshow demonstrations and evangelizing.
SONiVOX
Founder and CEO February, 1993 – January, 2012
SONiVOX designed, developed and marketed music instrument software, sound libraries, and audio software technologies to professional, prosumer and hobbyist musicians, as well as manufactures of mobile devices and semiconductors. SONiVOX products and technologies were embedded in hundreds of millions of consumer devices ranging from personal computers, music synthesizers, cell phones, tablets, games, toys and more.
Responsibilities: Early years – lots of hands-on sound design, recording, audio production, and sales. Middle years – focus on B2B licensing and development of our embedded MIDI synthesizer for cellphones and mobile operating systems. Later years - managed the continued growth of the company’s assets, technology and product direction, internship instruction, personnel, and eventually sale of the company to inMusic Brands in January, 2012.
Kurzweil Music Systems / Young Chang R&D
Senior Sound Designer/Product Manager March, 1986 – February, 1993
Senior sound designer and project manager for company's award winning music synthesizers including the Kurzweil K1000, K2000, K2500, PC88 and digital home pianos.
Responsibilities: Musical instrument sample library recording, digital signal processing of audio files, and synthesizer programming. User interface design, product design and quality assurance testing. Management of the sound design department. Tradeshow representation.
Musician, Performer and Technologist
D’Cuckoo
Member of D’Cuckoo, an electronic percussion performance ensemble based in San Francisco in the 1990’s. The band had national success performing for large festivals (Bumpershoot, SIGGRAPH), high-tech corporate parties (Industrial Light and Magic, Adobe) and even opening for the Grateful Dead. D'Cuckoo was known for its cutting-edge interactive shows, live graphics and hand-made electronic instruments. I performed with the band as a multi-instrumentalist playing MIDI marimbas, drum triggers, keyboards, bass guitar, percussion and vocals. I also worked extensively as a technologist helping to operate the band’s MIDI marimbas, drum triggers and their audience-interactive MIDI Ball.
Jazz Pianist and Synthesist
Member of various performing ensembles throughout the Boston area. Currently a member of District 5 Jazz Band, a jazz standards and fusion quintet. District 5 performs at local jazz venues and festivals in the New England area.
Composer and Producer
Composer and producer of pop, classical, jazz and theatre stage works. The work is available on iTunes, Soundcloud and my personal website. Self-produced music CD entitled “The Underground Forest” sold on iTunes. Composer of contemporary classical music for art songs, small ensembles and theatre productions. Composer and producer of musical instrument product demos.
