Electronic musicians love sounds and they can never have too many of them. So we keep producing them! Expansion packs are essentially extra sounds for a given digital instrument. The practice goes back as far a digital synths which had memory and a front panel interface to accept new sounds. Back in the day it could be a physical board with chips on it but today its a simple download.
